With the successful conclusion of China’s 2026 “Two Sessions” and the official release of the 15th Five-Year Plan outline, the new-type energy storage sector is entering a new golden five-year period of high-quality development. “New-type energy storage” has been included in the State Council’s Government Work Report for three consecutive years, with its strategic importance continuing to rise. It has also been explicitly identified as one of the six key emerging pillar industries to be prioritized during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. Leveraging its core technologies and full industry-chain layout, Guangzhou Zhiguang Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. (“Zhiguang Energy Storage”) is seizing policy-driven opportunities and contributing to the development of a new-type power system.

The 15th Five-Year Plan outline clearly calls for the vigorous development of new-type energy storage, the accelerated construction of a new-type power system, the safe and reliable substitution of renewable energy, and the improvement of a unified national electricity market. The energy storage industry is thus benefiting from both policy and market tailwinds. Delegates and committee members have also called for the large-scale development of long-duration energy storage and grid-forming energy storage, as well as enhanced coordination between computing and power systems and integrated development of generation, grid, load, and storage. These proposals directly address key industry challenges, guiding the sector from rapid expansion toward high-quality growth while providing a clear roadmap for companies deeply engaged in energy storage.
These policy directions are highly aligned with Zhiguang Energy Storage’s development strategy. As a pioneer and leader in cascaded high-voltage, large-capacity energy storage technology, the company’s flagship “cascaded high-voltage direct-mounted energy storage system” features transformer-less high-voltage direct connection (6kV–35kV), large single-unit capacity (100MW/200MWh), high conversion efficiency (over 92%), and strong grid-forming capabilities (one-click black start and millisecond-level 100MW power support). These advantages precisely meet the grid’s urgent demand during the 15th Five-Year Plan period for large-capacity, high-safety, and high-support energy storage equipment.

While attracting strong attention for its technological pathway, Zhiguang Energy Storage has also delivered impressive results in commercialization and financial performance. The company has consistently ranked No. 1 nationwide in market share within the cascaded high-voltage segment.

In terms of application scenarios, the company has delivered a 35kV grid-forming cascaded high-voltage energy storage project exceeding 1GWh in total capacity for Inner Mongolia Chuangyuan Metal. It also completed the industry’s first successful joint black-start and synchronization test between a grid-forming cascaded high-voltage energy storage system and a coal-fired power unit. Meanwhile, the company is actively expanding overseas, with projects including a deployment of 100 European-standard all-liquid-cooled integrated units in Greece and a solar-storage-diesel microgrid project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, marking its transition from technological leadership to global application.

To date, Zhiguang Energy Storage has successfully delivered more than 20 grid-forming cascaded high-voltage energy storage power station projects at the 100MW level. Its clients include leading energy enterprises such as State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, and China Huaneng Group, with projects spanning major renewable energy hubs across China. The company focuses on key application scenarios such as grid-side frequency regulation, renewable energy integration, zero-carbon industrial parks, and integrated generation-grid-load-storage solutions. These efforts are closely aligned with the development directions proposed during the Two Sessions, including scenario expansion, and electricity-carbon coordination, helping to address renewable energy consumption challenges and enhance grid resilience and emergency response capabilities.

In line with the Government Work Report’s emphasis on developing a green and low-carbon economy, Zhiguang Energy Storage has integrated sustainability across its entire industrial chain. It has established the Zhiguang Yonghe New-Type Energy Storage Industrial Park, which integrates a zero-carbon industrial park, a Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory, and a core demonstration base for the new-type energy storage industry. With a combined annual production capacity exceeding 15GWh, a total construction area of 205,000 square meters, and an automation rate of over 95% in key processes, the company has built a comprehensive full-industry-chain system—from core components to system integration, and from project deployment to O&M services—fully aligned with the industrialization and large-scale development goals outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan.

At the new starting point of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the blueprint for the development of the new-type energy storage industry has been clearly defined. Zhiguang Energy Storage will continue to follow national policy directions, seize the industry’s golden development opportunities, and deepen its expertise in cascaded high-voltage, large-capacity, and grid-forming energy storage technologies. The company will further enhance its full lifecycle management system, actively respond to electricity market reforms, and promote a well-regulated competitive environment. Driven by both technological innovation and industrial implementation, Zhiguang Energy Storage is committed to contributing its expertise and strength to the construction of China’s new energy system and the achievement of carbon peak goals.
